HB9BSH • Thomas Parthier
On-Island Operator, Photographer, Freight

Thomas was born in 1959 along the shores of Lake Zurich in Horgen, where he attended school and served an apprenticeship as an electrician. His professional career has led him from appliance repair, to service technician and then as the head of sales for machines in the electronics industry. For the last eight years he has worked in a small distribution office for electronic components.

Already in his early childhood years Thomas learned Morse telegraphy from his father, who was a telegraphist during the Second World War. In 1978, Thomas got his ham license and, to the horror of his parents and neighbors, erected an antenna on the roof of his house. Until 1984, Thomas was very active on the bands, mostly in CW.

Afterwards things got quieter because he developed a passion for a new hobby: diving. However, he once again got bitten by the "ham bug" in 1996. He became a member of the Helvetia Telegraphy Club (HTC) in 1999, and since then he has participated regularly in contests such as the Helvetia-26 contest and National Mountain Day (NMD). Since 2000, NMD has been among his very favorite contests.

Thomas supports the HTC as its webmaster, and he is also a member of the NMD Commission. His other hobbies include diving and cooking.
