HB9BQI • Rene Schmitt
Deputy Team Leader, On-Island Operator
René is 59 years old and partnered to Christina, HB9BQW. Since childhood he has enjoyed technical subjects including the solution of technical problems. He is an electronics and communications engineer. His field lies in calibrating electrical and electronic devices. As a sideline he drives buses and trucks.
Licensed in 1976, René enjoys repairing communications equipment and designing it. Thus some of his equipment is homebrew. He likes DXing and contesting in SSB, sometimes also in CW. He is a member of USKA, the USKA branches in Lucerne and Zug, Helvetia Telegraphy Club (HTC), Swiss DX Foundation (SDXF) and the Slovak Amateur Radio Association (SARA) .
René was a member of the 3B7RF expedition in 1998 and 3B6RF expedition in 2001. He was responsible for all the technical equipment.
In his leisure time he likes biking, hiking and cooking.

 According to the "World Lighthouse On The Air" Program, there is a lighthouse on Côn Có Island that is valid for WLOTA awards. We have been informed that QSOs with 3W6C will be valid for WLOTA #2557 after receipt of validation. Read more on the WLOTA program on their web site. |
