HB9JCI • Matthias Schumacher
On-Island Operator, Treasurer, Sponsoring
Matthias is 37 years old and married to Elisabeth. They have two children, Marius (almost 5 years old and Daniela (almost 1 year old). He works for one of the larger business consultants and audit companies in Schwyz, Central Switzerland, as an attorney-at-law and notary public.
Matthias got infected with the ham virus by his former neighbours HB9AZX and HB9CZX. He was first licensed in 1995 as HB9WDA. In 1996 he upgraded to Extra Class and since then has been active as HB9JCI on the HF bands, mainly on 40 to 10 meters in SSB and CW.
He enjoys making contacts with limited equipment as well as building simple dipole antennas and testing them in portable operations mainly in Central Switzerland. He is member of the Union of Swiss Shortwave Amateurs (USKA) and the president of the Uri and Schwyz branch club of USKA. He is also a member of the ARRL and RSGB.
In the 3W6C expedition, Matthias is responsible for fundraising and sponsoring. His hobbies include vintage automobiles, driving motorcycles and collecting guns.

 According to the "World Lighthouse On The Air" Program, there is a lighthouse on Côn Có Island that is valid for WLOTA awards. We have been informed that QSOs with 3W6C will be valid for WLOTA #2557 after receipt of validation. Read more on the WLOTA program on their web site. |
