XV1X/3W3W • Eddy Visser
On-Island Operator, Local Support (Vietnam)

Born in the Netherlands in 1947, Eddy has been living in Vietnam since 2001. He has a Vietnamese wife and no children. He was educated as an electronics engineer in the Netherlands and England. He has lived in the following countries: the Netherlands, England, Denmark, Iran, Malaysia, USA and Vietnam. He has spent most of his professional life working as an R&D engineer and had his own company in Denmark. Today he is semi-retired and does some consulting.

Eddy passed the amateur radio examination in 1964 (Class A) but first received his license in 1966 due to the age restriction (18 years). He has operated from a number of countries using the following callsigns: PAØDDT, G5ANH, OZ6DT, EP2DT, XV9DT, XV1X and 3W3W. In 1969 and 1970 he made two DXpeditions to HBØ, Liechtenstein. He operated for two years (1977-1978) from Iran. In 1979 he helped set up the first amateur radio station in Baghdad YI1BGD and upgraded this station in 1980. In 2007 and 2008 he participated together with OK1JR in the CQ 160 m contests, near the Vietnamese sea-shore as 3W3W.

Throughout the years, Eddy has participated in many contests, mainly CW and some SSB, especially since he moved to Vietnam. He has made approximately 75,000 QSOs from Vietnam. His main interest is low-band DXing on 80 m and 160 m.  He is a member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the National Dutch amateur radio club VERON.

WLOTA Number #2557 on Côn Có

According to the "World Lighthouse On The Air" Program, there is a lighthouse on Côn Có Island that is valid for WLOTA awards. We have been informed that QSOs with 3W6C will be valid for WLOTA #2557 after receipt of validation. Read more on the WLOTA program on their web site.
